Nose and Mouth Lines

Nose and mouth lines (nasolabial folds) are often offered to as ‘smile and laugh lines’. They are found from the corner of the nose and run down to the corners of the lips and are often quite deep set.

Lip lines, which occur around the mouth, sometimes called bar codes, smokers lines and are evident with ageing, can also be contributed to by sunlight / UV exposure and smoking for example.

Common Causes

The naso-labial folds increase with ageing and are a normal part of the ageing process. Changes in collagen and elasticity of the skin also contribute to the lines. Heavily repeated smiling- the more smiling we do the more prominent the nasolabial folds can become due to the repeated action which cause the folds to deepen.
Ageing - as we age our cheeks become weakened as well as the elasticity of the skin, making the nasolabial folds more prominent. Simply the act of talking and eating and generally pursing the lips will contribute to lip lines.
