Well you did it .. you survived Christmas .. well done you!

Christmas is a busy time of year and a major cause of stress for women, so studies report.

Here are just a few factors that add Festive season stress:

Extra Time Pressure:

  • Shopping chores- food and presents
  • Writing and sending of cards
  • Preparations for house guests
  • Cleaning
  • Wrapping presents
  • Food Cooking
  • Socialising
  • Reduced working month but same work to do!

Bad Diet

  • Alcohol consumption
  • High calorie snacks
  • Lack of vitamins
  • Reduced water intake
  • Increased salt and fat intake

Lack of sleep

  • Caused by all of the above
  • Worrying over keeping everyone happy
  • Compiling an endless to do list

You may already be starting to see the results of this stress on your skin:

  • Dry flaky skin
  • Puffy under eyes
  • Furrow lines – bridge of your nose, eyes, lips
  • Blemished skin
  • Acne

Here are a few things you can do to start looking and feeling better in January:

Keep hydrated

Drink the recommended daily amount of 6-8 glasses. Add some green tea for a boost of healthy antioxidants and eat foods that have a high water content (fruits and veggies like cucumbers, tomatoes, beets, and celery are 80 to 90 percent water).

Get more sleep

Specialist recommend 8 hours. Aim to go to bed a little earlier than normal. Turn off your electronic device at least 1 hour before bed time and read a book instead to settle your mind.

Breath

Take a moment to breath in for 5 breaths through your nose, hold the breath for 5 seconds, breath out for a count of 5 through your mouth. Repeat 5 times. Drop your shoulders and relax your facial muscles on each breath out.

Eat a healthier diet

Start to re-introduce 5 fruit and veg back into your diet and replace high calorie snacks with slow releasing energy snacks instead.

Aim to under achieve

Take 1 item off your daily to do list and replace this time with a pure self-indulgent moment of doing absolutely nothing but relaxing and enjoying living in the now
